Marvel figures it out. This is where they got the confidence to make a run at the gold. When they released a less-than-A-list title with a movie star who was considered by many to be washed up, it was a gamble, especially with the director of "Zathura" calling the shots. From the moment the first trailer for the film showed up, though, there was really only one reason everybody felt like they had to go see it: Robert Downey Jr., who went from "troubled has-been" to one of the biggest movie stars on the planet with this one role, a role so perfect it felt like it had been created with him in mind. The thing that Marvel brought to these films that really began here that has been so essential to their entire game plan is something you think would be a given with superhero films, but it's proven elusive for many of them: fun. And whatever else "Iron Man" is, it's fun.
